What type of law does Zamani Law deal with?
Zamani Law handles all kinds of criminal charges, extradition matters, professional discipline matters, controlled drugs and substances act matters, as well as prosecutions under the occupational health and safety act, environmental protection act and other statutes.
Who will work on my case? Are they experienced?
We have a passion to protect and we make the legal process understandable.
Farid Zamani, the founding partner, was called to the Bar in 2018. Farid works closely with Bruce Daley, the firm’s senior partner, who was called to the Bar in 1981. Farid and Bruce have extensive experience in defending all criminal charges and Bruce has appeared in almost every Ontario Court of Justice in the Province of Ontario. Is Zamani Law a criminal defence firm only?
Experience in a given area of law is essential. Experience means not only knowing the law, but also knowing the locality where the charges are being prosecuted, as well as the judges and prosecutors themselves. Zamani Law is a defence practice only. We defend all criminal and regulatory charges.
Does Zamani Law have experience with the Court I’m facing charges in?
Zamani Law has appeared before judges in almost every Ontario court.
Will a lawyer be available to communicate with me quickly and give me the attention I need?
We are available 24/7 and provide a direct line to all our clients. We report to clients frequently to keep them apprised of developments. We understand how stressful and scary being charged can be. You and your case will receive the attention you need so we can build the best defence we can. We take great pride in our work, and care deeply about our clients.
What if I can’t afford a lawyer?
Zamani law can accommodate your financial situation. We offer flexibility through payment plans. Being charged can change your life, and often it’s the last thing you expect. We do our best to spread our fees out to accommodate your financial situation as much as possible.
Can’t I just use/find a cheaper lawyer?
We believe in providing top service at a great value. While we are not always the least expensive, our fees ensure we can do what needs to be done. We have a reputation for having a passion to protect and making the legal process understandable.
Do I need to appear in court?
After retaining Zamani Law as your legal counsel, you do not have to appear in court, apart from several apparent exceptions. We’ll appear on your behalf for most preliminary hearings after filing a Designation of Counsel document with the court. Some of the exceptions that require your presence in court include:
- During jury selection
- When a witness is providing oral evidence
- During trial
- When a guilty plea is entered
- During sentence rendering
- Anytime the court orders your physical presence
When your presence is required in court, we’ll notify you in advance and make any necessary preparations to ensure that you’re ready.
Can I resolve my case quickly?
Every criminal case has varying elements and can experience significant changes as it proceeds. This makes it difficult to give a specific time frame on how quickly your case can be resolved. The court’s schedule also affects the resolution of your case. At Zamani Law, we strive to get your case resolved as quickly as possible while protecting your rights and interests.
I think I am being investigated for a crime; what can I do?
If you think that the police are looking into you for a crime, you should talk to a criminal defence lawyer immediately. They’ll guide you on how to handle the situation and protect your rights. Remember, the police have a duty to investigate crimes and any complaints made to them, but the choice to cooperate with the investigation is yours. Do not make this choice without seeking legal counsel.
If I have been charged/arrested, what should I do? Are the police allowed to question me?
If you have been arrested or charged with a criminal offence, remember that you have rights guaranteed by the Charter of Rights. Some of them include the right to silence, the right to a lawyer, and the right to be presumed innocent. Therefore, if you’re ever arrested or charged with a crime, ask for your lawyer, and do not say anything until they arrive and offer legal advice. By law, the police can question you, but you have the right to refuse to answer the questions.

What do I do if the police want to talk to me about something illegal I was involved in?
Anytime the police want to speak to you, always consider the outcome as anything you say can be used to build a case against you. Saying one wrong word can get you into more trouble than you’re already in. This is why it’s vital to seek legal counsel from an experienced criminal defence lawyer whenever the police want to talk to you. A criminal lawyer can even deal with the police on your behalf and protect you from any allegations.

What should I do to prepare for my first meeting with my lawyer/you?
To ensure that the first meeting with your lawyer is as fruitful as possible, you should prepare thoroughly. Here is a list of some things you should do to prepare and bring to your first meeting:
- Have all the pertinent documents relevant to your case
- A list of all possible witnesses and include their contact information
- Write a full recollection of what happened and the circumstances leading up to that event
- Prepare any questions you want to ask Zamani Law pertaining to our experience, qualifications, successes, and reviews
- Prepare a short biography and include your employment, citizenship status, and any prior criminal charges
